Local workshop of NGO educators on competencies
for strengthening gender equality in
Latvia
The local workshop was implemented in 22 September, 2022, in
Varaklani by partner EAPN-Latvia, led by Jelena Ziemele,
Chair of the association "Pieaugušo attīstības projekts".
The activity increased the competence of 38 NGO educators in the
field of social inclusion. The target group of this activity was NGO
educators - staff, experts and volunteer specialists with various
ages (22-84), Latvian nationality (35) and other (3), both sexes (30
women, 8 men), people with disabilities, incl. mental (12), persons
with low-income (6), seniors with low- income (13), unemployed
person (7), persons with different educational level (higher - 6,
professional - 18, secondary - 10, basic - 4). However, every target
group member's level of education and previous experience in
promoting non-formal adult education are key determinants for them
to participate and expand their knowledge in this activity, then
pass on their knowledge to the members of their organization,
especially to the most vulnerable people.
The legal and operational nature of EAPN-Latvia made it necessary to
discuss during this workshop the capacity of the association
"Pieaugušo attīstības projekts" to pursue its goals for
strengthening gender equality.
Through informative materials and discussions, EAPN-Latvia educators
Modra Vilkaus, Iveta Grudule, Jelena Ziemele
and Dzidra Barbale shared their experiences of the situation
within the network and put together proposals that will contribute
to the improvement of the socially inclusive environment and the
inclusion process for women and men.
This workshop also provided an opportunity to involve in the
discussion the participants with less experience in the programs
offered by Erasmus+ and in the context of the European dimension.
Attracting educated professionals to the NGO network will be an
important tool for increasing people's well-being in Latvia.
The results of the workshop were evaluated and no less than 4
proposals were summarized.
